The primary relationship for all of us is with the self – there’s only one person with whom you’re going to spend your entire life – and that is you! So it’s really important that you get on with yourself, like your own company and know how to treat yourself well. This is surprisingly hard for many people!
The CONNECTION Jigsaw Piece is about re-connecting with your true self – remembering who you truly are and ensuring a relationship of self-love and optimum self-care, then being able to relate to others in a secure and positive way to continue self-love and extend that love and compassion out to others to enjoy mutually enlivening and healthful relationships and interactions with everyone you meet!
Just as you’re advised, in an aeroplane emergency, to ‘put your own oxygen mask on first’, before helping others, so, in life, we need to remember to ensure our own safety and personal energy management before giving away our energy to others. Many individuals in chronic low energy states have unconsciously (or consciously) learned to put others’ needs before their’s, ALL THE TIME, meaning that even when depleted in energy and other resources, it’s still others’ needs that are prioritised.
For sustainable, full recovery to good health, this has to change!
The first step is in becoming aware – aware of when you are giving away your energy when you’ve not really enough to do so… start noticing, every day! As time goes on, you can start to implement other steps (the path to true self-care usually takes a while for most dedicated ‘givers’ and ‘helpers’) (I know, because all this has been true for me too!) such as making your default answer ‘no’ rather than ‘yes’, monitoring and altering your self-talk – and starting to put into practice new behaviours of self-love and self-kindness…
